The first graphical user interface for computers stuck – a desktop metaphor with folders, files and trash cans. Look at what happens when an architect tries to apply a computer interface to a building’s environmental and industrial design; it’s called “Signaterior.”

Safari 4’s New Tabs

I’ve always considered Apple as an expert in user interface design, especially since they helped codify it. However, the choice to dissect the fundamental definition of a “window” – the title bar that contains its name and control mechanisms – seems like a major flaw to me.

iCal Events

I love attention to detail and progressive disclosure, especially in interface design. I was amazed to see that Mac OS X “Leopard” rendered my ICS file icons with accurate dates and even summary data.

Tufte and the iPhone

With the newest iteration of iPhone coming out this Friday, I thought it be interesting to revisit Edward Tufte’s review of the iPhone. This video illustrates how Apple “solved the problem of small screens by greatly intensifying the information resolution of each displayed page.”

Bloom’s Taxonomy

A conversation with my friend yesterday reminded me of Bloom’s taxonomy. His comment that he’s a better editor than author had me thinking about how people process information and demonstrate knowledge.
