Stranger Than Fiction

Ever felt like you didn’t control your life, fate or destiny? How would it change the way you live each day?
The thing that makes this movie work is the extraordinary wealth of performances in which Will Ferrell is an over-the-top slapstick genius. The entire time you watch this movie, your mind runs back to skits like “More Cowbell” - and its the contrast of Will’s performance that makes his seriousness in this movie so powerful.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Interesting points to ponder - the questions in my initial 2 sentences. If life’s purpose is outside of your control, do you choose to sit on the couch immobile - or do you strike out and learn to play guitar?
Watch for lots of weird symbolism.
- Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thomson barefoot in many scenes. Is this a symbol of their bond?
- The father, child and bus driver that appear over and over in each imagined death scene. They ultimately share in Harold’s unfortunate predicament.
